Spirit of Akasha

With the Sydney Festival coming to a close, why not spend the perfect evening escaping reality? Immerse yourself in an unknown world where live music and film tell a story so vividly you will be sitting on the edge of your seat.

How sad it is to come to the realisation that summer is nearly over, it slowly crept up on us, and how quickly it has already gone. So why not re-live surfing culture on a hot summer night, set in the iconic Sydney Opera House on the eve of Australia Day.

The inspiration for the Spirit of Akasha draws from the classic movie Morning of the Earth by Albert Falzon, the film that opened our eyes to the beauty of the ocean and the possibility of entering an untouched world. The event celebrates 40 years since the making of the film, and proves how the passion for surfing lives on. ‘Spirit of Akasha’ features surfers Stephanie Gilmore, Beau Young, Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater and Tom Curren. Also including compositions from musicians including Grouplove, Ben Howard, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and the Windy Hills.

The ‘Spirit of Akasha’ will bring the Sydney Opera House to life with the live sounds of the musicians that contributed to its original soundtrack. Also accompanying the screening are live performances from Xavier Rudd, POND, Canyons DJs, Jack River and Andrew Kidman & the Windy Hills.

So celebrate on the eve of Australia day by delving into a world apart, with golden beaches, endless horizons of oceans and waves that touch the sky. This 3 hour event will be a once only experience. For all other information and ticket purchases check out the official Sydney Festival website.

“According to the philosophers of India, the whole universe is composed of two materials, one of which they call Akasha. It is the omnipresent, all-penetrating existence. Everything that has form, everything that is the result of combination, is evolved out of this Akasha”  – Albert Falzon
