Ssssshhhh! A Silent Dinner Party

The Sydney Fringe Festival are hosting the world’s largest Silent Dinner Party at the historic Paddington Town Hall on 24 September 2016, a truly incredible setting for such a unique event!

The Silent Dinners are an international performance art project based around a three course meal.

36 of these social sculptures havebeen hosted in 11 countries, 15 cities over the past ten years, for between 2 and 200 participants at a time.

“It was a very intimate for me and it was all in complete silence. Complete silence. So simple. So pure. So true and so real” says an attendee in Shanghai about the event.

A Silent Dinner Party is a normal party, except that the guests are required to

  • not use words or their voice
  • not read or write
  • make as little noise as possible
  • not interact with technology
  • stay for at least 2 hours

The Silent Dinners have become an intimate, embodied, cross cultural portrayal of an era; highlighting globalisation, the change of nature of communication and the space between people. And they are a lot of fun.

The ticket includes a three-course meal and a glass of sparkling on arrival. The food is prepared by local expert chefs on site at Paddington Town Hall.

“You will be astonished by your own creativity- it is possible to convey quite complex ideas using only facial expressions and hand gestures and of course any embarassments you feel because of the way you’re waving your hands around wildly and pulling the most ridiculous faces soon dissipates when you realise every other person around you is doing the exact same thing.” says an attendee in Sydney.
