Storm Surfers 3D made massive waves at Ritz Cinema

by Hannah Vogel

Last Friday two-time world surfing champion Tom Carroll and big wave pioneer Ross Clarke-Jones visited the Ritz Cinema to present their film Storm Surfers in 3D.  However the two friends had been to various other cinemas in Sydney before, both screenings were well-attended. Visitors had to join long queues, waiting for the admittance as there were no allocated seats.

The film follows Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones down under last winter. With the help of meteorologist Ben Matson, doing the surf forecasting for them, they search for the biggest oceanic storms creating massive swells. In a race against time Tom, Ross and their crew travel to different surf spots all around the continent.

With Storm Surfers 3D Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones created a film that is very absorbing and emotional at the same time. Although their previous version of the film was without three-dimensional effect it was a great success all over the world. Thanks to the 3D effect the audience not only has the experience of watching the movie but also catching giant waves. Apart from that the short but personal interviews during the film show Tom’s and Ross’s view of surfing and their lifestyle. During the screenings either the theatre was deadly quiet because of people holding their breath or filled with the sound of clapping hands or whistling.

After the film Tom and Ross spoke about making the film and answered questions from the audience. To the pleasure of their fans they could also shake hands with their idols and even take photos next to them.

Although in their 40s Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones haven’t found their last perfect wave yet and after seeing extraordinary Storm Surfers 3D one has to be happy about that.
