Super Duper Alice Cooper
Co-presented by Groovescooter + Eastside 89.7fm for the Sydney Underground Film Festival
Welcome back to the nightmare…
Thankfully perhaps, there can be only one Alice Cooper, a gender-bender name bestowed upon preacher’s son Vincent Furnier during a Ouija board revelation of his previous life as a persecuted witch… But of course!
Frank Zappa recorded and mixed their first psychmarish LP in 1969 in less than a day. First styled & dressed like freaky dolls by all-girl groupie-group The GTOs (who favoured eyeliner texts over pencils), by the early ’70s Cooper’s dark eye make-up had seriously begun running, whilst his on-stage antics now included chicken slaughtering and other theatrics, claiming his place as the founding father of shock rock.
Australian Premiere – Two Screenings Only!
This artfully made documentary dissection of his crazy life matches the fame and frenzy that followed in his wake. Sex, drugs, snakes and music are just the start of it. Somewhere, in someone’s imagination, god and the devil continue fighting for the keys to his soul.
Via interviews, clips and archival material spanning the very beginnings to his endurance amongst new generations, Super Duper Alice Cooper wades through the rock’n’roll dreams and welcomes viewers into Cooper’s nightmares.
