Swedish flautist to Sydney

Anna Svensdotter is something as exclusive as a Swedish flautist who has specialized in newly written music. Always inquisitive about the way the flute and electronics give and take from one another in a musical collaboration, she has a place all her own among performers of the new flute repertoire.

Her first solo cd, ”Alpha Waves”, with Swedish music for solo flute and electronics, was released in March 2013 on the label SFZ records. The music on “Alpha Waves” is written for, and in collaboration with, Ms Svensdotter.

Anna Svensdotter completed her schooling 1993 with a Master of fine Arts in Music from Gothenburg School of Music, and has studied with Manuela Wiesler and Robert Dick among others. Inspired by them and carrying on the tradition, she has since then been on the Swedish scene for contemporary solo- and chamber music, always with a strong musicality and personality.

Anna Svensdotter has given several first time performances in Sweden, and worked with composers as Fredrik Österling, Mirjam Tally, Benjamin Staern, and Bengt Hambraeus. She has been involved in several ensemble projects, solo projects and in theater.
Her collaboration with composer Daniel Karlsson in the forty minutes-piece ”Vortices”, played in Stockholm 2010 and Gothenburg 2011, was described as ”…a rest to long for. Long notes, overtones, a drone landscape in movement, sound-waves with hypnotic power…”

In the experimental ensemble L’Orchestre Disparu, (flute, voice, live electronics, live video), Anna explores the fusion of music and visuals, aiming for new meeting points between music and audience.
With 40f, Anna Svensdotter challenges the concept of what a flute quartet should be, by building up a new repertoire with commissions from interesting composers, and mixing music, words, movement, and electronics.

As an improviser she is heard in the acoustic trio Ek/Janson/Svensdotter (voice, double bass, flute), and in the duo Skarv FX, (flute/electronics and double bass/electronics).

For the season of 2014-15 several concerts in Sweden are planned with the repertoire from “Alpha waves”, but also new ensemble projects such as a collaboration with Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist and Trio Ek/Janson/Svensdotter, and a new group: Ensemble Parkour, with My Eklund, recorder, Jörgen Petterson, saxophone, and Sten Sandell, voice/electronics. The flute quartet 40f will premiere three new commissions, works by Anders Jormin, Ellen Lindquist and Andrea Tarrodi, during the season.
