SYDNEY ADVENTURES AT EASTSIDE RADIO
Australians have a free spirit and an ability to think outside the box, and that is why I like Australia so much.

Hey everyone!
I’m Helena, 18 years old, from Munich, Germany.
Now you guys probably ask yourself: ” Who is she and what has a Munich girl to do with an Australian radio channel?”. The anwser is actually quite easy, I’m the new intern at Eastside Radio. I’ve been always interested in radio and on top of that, I wanted to gain some working expierence in this area.
I don’t know how you feel while reading this quote, but it really caught my eye. As I’ve just graduated from highschool, I decided to go abroad and there is no doubt that discovering Australia, its culture and its awesome people, was a great idea!
To deliver insight into my expierence here in Downunder, I’d love to share my first impressions of Sydney and of my internship with you.
From the minute I arrived in Sydney, I knew I had made the right choice coming to Australia to do my internship at Eastside Radio. For about three years, I’ve had a dream to live on the other side of the world and finally it became reality. I was wondering if all the new impressions, expierences and constantly being on the move during my stay in Sydney would overwhelm me. And it did, but in such an incredible way.
It’s so interesting to see such a large city being in the middle of actual greenery and beautiful aspects of nature, especially regarding the 70 different beaches, located around Sydney. The scenery is beautiful. Not to forget how clean everything is! There is so much going on, from typical tourist attractions to architecture to cultural diversity, so no chance to get bored.
Nevertheless, what is fascinating me the most, are the Australian people and their lifestyle. Although there is a huge cultural diversity of Australian inhabitants, which is one of Australia’s defining feature, Australians, like all other citizens, cannot be so easily stereotyped. However, people I’ve encountered have been very straightforward, down-to-earth, open-minded, easy-going, relaxed and happy.
Through my internship at EastsideFM89.7 I got the chance to get to know many Australians, adapting myself profoundly to its culture. During my five months internship, I want to focus on bringing in my talents, being a part of the community station in order to attain the best possible learning experience. I hope to extend my knowledge in different fields and as I have the pleasure to be an intern at EastsideRadio for such a long time, I would love to improve constantly and observing the internship learning process. My big aim would be to be on air some day.
I’m glad to get the chance working for a radio channel and I am enjoying the first impressions I’ve made so far. 🙂
