Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival 2015
The 4th of November, the 4th Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival 2015 will kick off in the city for 2 weeks. This annual world class event will celebrate the passion and talent of woman from all around the world through Jazz music.
Kicking off the season is Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, a wonderful global musical canvas celebrating the rhythms and vitality of Cuba and Canada. Acclaimed around the world Maqueque is sure to move your spirit and soul.
We also reach into the heart of creativity with our commission by Ellen Kirkwood inspired by the music of China Miéville, not to mention Hope in my pocked specially commissioned for the Anzac Day Centenary and featuring music and lyrics of exquisite poignancy from Kristin Berardi and her collaborators Sean Foran and Rafael Karlen.
We relish in the vitality of the New York jazz scene with Camille Thurman and Mimi Jones, showing us what a new generation of artists has in store for us. This is jazz taking up where post-bop left off, heading in a melodic and engaging direction.
This year the objective is to go larger with four free events additionally to the programme. There would be other performances and club gigs mostly at the Foundry 616, but also at the Lord Worsley Hotel in Ultimo or at the Tatler Bar in Darlinghurst.
An outdoor free event is also planned at the Foley park Stage : the Glebe Street Fair, starring Sandy Evans Trio with Bobby Singh, fusing jazz and Indian music. Talks and workshops will take place during the day as well.
