The Adventures of Prince Achmed

The Adventures Of Prince Achmed is a German animated fairytale film from 1926. The film is created by Lotte Reineger, the master of silhouette animation. The story is based on 1001 Arabian nights. Love, witchcraft and a magic flying horse: our hero risks all to reclaim the magic lamp and conquer the African sorcerer, While travelling, he falls in love with the beautiful Princess Peri Banu, and must defeat an army of demons to win her heart. The entire film is animated using the silhouette technique, which employs movable cardboard and metal cutouts posed in front of illuminated sheets of glass. A sensory experience you will never forget.

The oldest surviving feature-length film will be screened at Randwick Town Hall on 17th May. The Adventures Of Achmed will be accompanied by live musicians. They are performing the world premiere of a new, original contemporary score. The performance will be done by Sydney musicians James Greening, Alister Spence, Casey Golden & Phillip Johnston. This 65-minute performance is perfect for jazz lovers, cineastes and fans but also for children of all ages who enjoy a fantastic adventure based on the Arabian Nights tales!
