‘The Black Power Mixtape 67-75’ Screening

tbp

A snapshot of a country in conflict, a culture of change and national upheaval, all set to the revolutionary soundtrack of the 60’s and 70’s. Groovescooter with Eastside Radio and Oxford Hotel are proud to present a screening of ‘The Black Power Mixtape 67-75’, a classic documentary based around the anti-war and black power movements of the late sixties and early seventies.

The documentary is crafted around footage taken by Swedish filmmakers attempting to understand the Black Experience in America. The footage resurfaced 30 years later and was utilised by director Goran Olsson to create this 96-minute film. The footage includes a variety of content from produced for television pieces to casual ‘talking-head’ interviews with prominent movement members. Iconic interviews including those with members of the Black Panthers and Angela Davis provide an illuminating look at a time of revolution and a reminder of how deeply divisive the country was over important racial issues. Modern-day activists and voices provide context and perspective for the viewer.

Don’t miss out on this screening of this Sundance Film Festival 2011 prize winner and multiple nominee!
