My first guests: Director, Jay James-Moody and actor and vocalist, Michele Lansdown chat about ‘The Drowsy Chaperone”– a Tony Award winning musical within a comedy.

In a shabby New York apartment, a die-hard musical-theatre fan plays his favourite Broadway cast album on vinyl with the musical literally bursting to life in his living room and telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.

Originally presented on Broadway in 2006, The Drowsy Chaperone has won the Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score and has enjoyed major productions in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, London, Japan and a sell-out 2010 season by the Melbourne Theatre Company starring Geoffrey Rush, who is also set to star in a film adaptation of the show.

Stitching weaves together past and present in a twisted love story with a relationship pushed to the brink. The performance of this heartbreaking story exposes true intimacy, hurt and love on stage.

My next guest: Artistic Director, Daryl Buckley, chats about ‘ELISION-’ Australia’s premier new music ensemble.

ELISION has built a presence over 28 years as one of the world’s most important and distinctive experimental music groups, famous for commissioning and performing staggeringly complex and virtuosic new music. The ensemble of 20 musicians is featured regularly in major festivals and new music programs across the globe, and is known for its high-profile collaborations with leading composers and artists.

The Sydney programs feature cutting-edge works by a range of contemporary composers from all over the world, including three world premieres and numerous Australian premieres. The concerts represent a younger generation of composers for whom sound is a living force to be choreographed and sculpted.

On Tuesday 18 March the program includes innovative compositions by Liza Lim, Timothy McCormack, Aaron Cassidy, Matthew Sergeant and Richard Barrett. It is conducted by Carl Rosman.

On Wednesday 19 March, a more intimate concert, features works by Dmitri Kourliandski, Ann Clear, Luke Paulding, Timothy O’Dwyer and Richard Barrett.
