The Light Box, Australian Concert Pianist, and Arafat In Therapy with Eastside’s Arts Margaux Dombkins on 8 July 2013
Dean Mason, Michael Kieran Harvey and Jeremie Bracka join me today. My first guest, actor Dean Mason chats about a wild and thought-provoking new theatrical production at 107 Projects – The Light Box. Australian playwright, Natalia Savvides, explores the concept of ‘love” – how it’s impossible to predict who you will love, who will love you in return, and whether or not your world is the real world. Where do the boundaries of these mercurial aspects of life begin and end? This multi-sensory theatre experience links the real tragedy of a fractured family to a bizarre world of talking birds and spoons in lab coats.
This Fat Boy Dancing production, is directed by James Dalton, and stars Hannah Barlow, Dean Mason, Stephanie King and Tom Christophersen With Design by Dylan Tonkin, Lighting by Benjamin Brockman and Sound by Nate Edmondson

My second guest is multi-award winning Australian concert pianist and composer Michael Kieran Harvey. Michael is renowned for his eclectic and extensive repertoire that embraces both the traditional and the cutting edge.
‘Few Australian pianists can touch Michael Kieran Harvey, one of the most exciting exponents of contemporary music in the country’ The Age
‘A fearless advocate of interpretation’ The Australian
Widely respected for his bold, adventurous programs delivered with impeccable technique, Harvey defies convention and categorisation. He veers away from the conservative and predictable and thrives on challenge and exploration. Harvey has in particular carved a name for himself as a champion of Australian music, having performed and recorded a vast amount of solo piano works by Australia’s leading composers, many of whom wrote their piano music for him.
Michael Kieran Harvey will deliver an all-Australian program featuring three works: his own acclaimed Psychosonata – Piano Sonata No. 2 (2012), the world premiere of Elliott Gyger’s brand new cycle of etudes, Inferno – based on Dante’s vision of Hell, and Raymond Hanson’s virtuosic Piano Sonata of 1963.

My next guest, Jeremie Bracka chats about his hilarious hit one-man political comedy Arafat in Therapy
Directed by Pip Mushin (Strictly Ballroom) and with music by Tomi Kalinski (former Musical Director to Dame Edna), the show parodies the Middle-East peace process through farce, mockumentary and ‘autobiographical’ monologue
“Energetic. Extraordinary. Melbourne’s very own Sasha Baron Cohen. Four stars!” – Time Out New York
“Smart, thoughtful… comedy with substance.” – The Age
Arafat in Therapy is also a journey through Jeremie’s real-life experiences as a human rights lawyer in Israel and at the United Nations. Showcasing more than 20 different characters, this is a-fast paced take on the Middle-East. From U.N. resolutions to CNN, Arafat sends up politicians, peacemakers and human rights campaigners across the political spectrum.
