The Necks- Mindset

Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week is Mindset by The Necks.

This is the 16th album from the Sydney based trio, and the latest in their 24 year collaboration.

Since their debut album “Sex” in 1989, The Necks have continued to push the boundaries of sound. Unlike previous releases of one long instrumental piece, the album Mindset consists of two 21 minute tracks.

The first track “Rum Jungle” is heavy and hypnotic. It is overlayed with Lloyd Swanton’s bass, Chris Abraham’s heavy piano notes and Tony Buck’s cymbal-tapping. The mood rises and falls and is altogether daring.

The second track “Daylights” is softer but just as captivating. Its gentle soothing sound offers a nice contrast to the previous track. The sparse keys against Swanton’s bass takes the listener into an unexpected place.

Together these two tracks make a masterful album of intriguing sounds yet fluid improvisation. This is an exceptional example of Australian experiential music.

Mindset is distributed by Fuse Records. For more information go to www.thenecks.com.

Stay closely tuned to Eastside as we are giving away a copy of the album to a listener everyday this week!
