Leigh Carriage  – Mandarin Skyline

Leigh Carriage has returned with a stellar lineup of local jazz heads on her new album Mandarin Skyline, a dreamy escape of light vocal jazz music. Catch her this Wednesday from 8pm at 505 in Surrey Hills!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Refuge’

‘I’m Not Leaving’

‘All While You Sleep’

Jess Green’s Bright Sparks – Tinkly Tinkly

A cracker album this one that also showcases many fantastic local Sydney Jazz musicians. Guitarist and composer Jess Green leads the group who perform an eclectic mix of Jazz, Afro, light rock and minimal music. Multi layered depths, and both subtle and hard hitting, it’s also my favourite album name of the year so far!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Bamako Youth’

‘Orange Rock Song’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Babylon’ by The Ray Mann Three from the album Sketches.

The Perfections – The Perfections

A new band and a new release perfect for The New Thing! The perfections are the latest garage soul outfit to be making a bit of a stir down in Melbourne. Fans of the likes  of Deep Street Soul, The Stooges and Clairy Browne & The Bangin Rackettes take note, this band is one you should definitely be checking out!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Lemon’

‘I Keep Trying’

‘Born Again’

‘Peaches’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Say You’re Mine’ by Hurricanes.

Ange Takats – Arva

Fans of Norah Jones and Eva Cassidy take note, the former foreign correspondent Ange Takats has returned with her sophomore album Arva,  and it’s as easy effortless music as you can get. Light 30’s vocal jazz and Americana folk a blended with melt away breezy success.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Infatuation’

‘Hotel Napkin’

‘Back To The Sun’

‘Minnesota’
