The New Thing 08/08/2011 Track List & Albums

Here’s the track list for this morning’s New Thing Show, and a little info on the brand new albums that were played today!

Local Sydneysiders Polyminor’s debut release Echo & Shadow fuses classical, folk, eastern and gypsy music to create a beautiful cinematic soundscape vibe. A lovely debut LP, don’t forget you can catch them this Thursday for their album launch at the Vanguard in Newtown!

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘Ponderosa Pines’

‘Sola’

‘Shadow’

Experienced Malian singer Sidi Toure’s album Sahel Folk is an extremely easy listen. Singing in what Sidi describes as a Songhai Blues style, the album is personal, relaxing and traditional Malian folk music with a vivid storytelling theme throughout.

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘Bon Koum’

‘Bera Nay Wassa’

Sugarfinger is an independent  release from Melbourne based jazz musicians Blow it Out Ya Brass Band. And they do exactly what it says on the tin, upbeat boppy brass jazz music with hints of funk, this is the band’s second CD release.

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘Groove Elation’

‘Back to New Orleans’

‘Sugarfinger’

A compilation release from the legendary David Rodigan, a man who through his crate digging and love for Jamaican Dub, Dancehall and indeed everything with a Jamaican twinge has influenced countless DJs, producers and even genres such as Drum & Bass and Dubstep. Dubwize Shower is an amalgamation of classic Dub tunes. Irie.

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘King of Zion Dub’ – King Tubby feat. Barry Brown

‘Roots Natty Congo Dub’ – King Tubby feat. Johnny Clarke

‘Joker Smoker Dub’ – Da Grynch

And today’s final track on the New Thing was Shapeshifter’s ‘Sleepless’, my favourite live Drum and Bass band in the world!

Tune in next monday at 9.30 in the morning for your dose of fresh new music!
