Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Samurai Spirit

Samaurai Spirit is a compilation CD of Rufus Records’ releases from 1994 until now. Featuring an array of Australian Jazz talent, including a few Eastside faces, the album also supports a good cause, with $5 from each sale going towards the Japanese Red Cross to support the Tsunami and Earthquake release over there.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Good Grief’ by Alder

‘Lapis Lazuli’ by Bob Bertles Quintet

‘Isospin’ by Ten Part Invention

Peter Knight – Fish Boast Of Fishing

An ethereal and eclectic jazz fusion release here. Peter Knight has been inspired by the poetry of e e Cummings – renowned for his avant garde style in a traditional format – and has transposed this idea into a modern jazz album. Prepare to go deep on this LP.

‘Unknowness II’

Independent Track Of The Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘Alfresco Disco’ by Nova and the Experience whose second EP drops in a couple of weeks.

Sara Tindley – Time

Byron Bay country folk singer songwriter Sara Tindley has released her third album on Vitamin Records. The LP is unpretentious, sweet and natural.

‘Eve’s Garden’

‘Little Birds (Maisie’s Song)’

‘Slow Dance’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Into The Night’ by Takadimi on their debut album New Common Sense.

Alphamama – Alphamama EP

Sassy soul with attitude is how best to describe this Sydney song bird. Her debut EP is new soul, with funk and reggae vibes. She’s set to perform at an Eastside gig soon so watch this space!

Tracks on The New Thing:

‘If Ya Gon’ Lie’

‘Bad Appel’ (Featuring Ngaiire)

‘Dawning’

And today’s final track on The New Thing was ‘I’ll Take Care Of You’ by Gil Scott Heron and Jamie XX, a cracker from their joint release We’re New Here released at the start of the year.

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
