Origami – Karaoke

Melbourne trio Origami follow up their debut from last year The Blues Of Joy with two new albums. This one, Karaoke, sees Adam Simmons, Howard Cairns and Anthony Baker cover some of Australia’s finer pop songs in their own slightly abstract style. Innovative enough to keep you captivated, certainly one of the better cover albums out there.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Somebody That I Use To Know’

‘The Mercy Seat Ver 2’

‘No Time At All’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Three Songs In E Minor No. I’ by Marialy Pacheco from her album Spaces Within.

Toby Wren - Rich & Famous

Toby Wren – Rich & Famous

Brisbane guitarist Toby Wren is probably best known for his work with the Carnatic Jazz Experiment, which saw him cross South Indian Music with Jazz on a cross cultural music project. Rich & Famous sees him put out a light guitar driven jazz album that’s easy on the ear throughout.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Rich & Famous’

‘Pacific Drop’

‘All The Things You Are’

The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra - The System

The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra – The System

One of the most exciting groups in Australia The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra return with their latest EP, bringing their Fela Kuti inspired sound and an onslaught of Afro, Funk, Rhythms, Tribal, Mcs and grooves. Released on the great Hope Street Recordings, this is what it’s all about!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘The System’

‘Shake’

‘Mr Clean’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Expectations’ by Munro Melano from hisdebut EP Running Around.

Mama Kin - The Magician's Daughter

Mama Kin – The Magician’s Daughter

Freemantle singer Mama Kin returns with her second album. Once again her voice steals though show, it’s raw, emotive and powerful. Pop styled with a soul and folk twist, there’s almost a New Orleans feel to a lot of her work.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Rescue’

‘Bosom Of Our Bed’

‘The River As She Runs’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00am til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
