The New Thing 16/01/12 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Christian McBride – Conversations With Christian

One of the hardest working jazz musicians in the game, Christian has appeared on some 300 recordings alongside the likes of Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Diana Krall and Benny Green to name but a few, and he’s not even 40! Conversations with Christian is an intimate album of duets released on Mack Avenue.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Shake & Blake’ (Feat. Ron Blake)

‘Tango Improvisation #1’ (Feat. Chick Corea)

‘McDukey Blues’ (Feat. George Duke)

Pat Martino Quartet – Undeniable Live at Blues Alley

The story of Pat Martino is quite remarkable. One of the most gifted jazz guitarists of his generation, in his 30s he suffered a brain aneurysm and he  had to relearn everything from scratch. And he came back and continued to pioneer his soul infused hard bop jazz sound. Undeniable is no different to that, and coincides with the release of his autobiography.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Inside Out’

”Round Midnight’

‘Lean Years’

Independent Track of the Week and at the same time a Track from Eastside Radio’s Album of The Week

‘Moving Up’ by Jake Barden from the album Moving Up

Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes – Baby Caught The Bus

A soon to be Soul Queen? Definitely a possibility. Clairy Browne and her Bangin’ Rackettes are bringing soul back with a passion, and her storming power vocals, drunken pianos and sexy saxs could get anyone swinging. Incredibly exciting new soul music.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Love Letter’

‘Baby Caught The Bus’

‘Frankie’

‘Vicious Circle’

Lyall Moloney – The Africa Album: In A Hut In Barhir Dar

After spending some time in Ethiopia, Lyall Moloney was inspired and created this album. Fireside storytelling folk music, the album has a raw sound which Lyall says was intentional to accompany the raw picture of humanity that surrounded him.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Like He Used To’

‘Wake Up’

‘Found’

And today’s final tracks on The New Thing was ‘His Mind is Gone’ from the exciting Perth band Boom! Bap! Pow!

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
