The New Thing 19/12/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Chet Baker – The Primo Collection 2CD Set: The Essential Early Recordings

We kicked things off with a new compilation double CD album from one of the greatest of all Jazz legends. Featuring a whole host of the early classic Chet Baker sounds, could prove to be a perfect Christmas present for someone!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘For Miles & Miles’

‘Sonny Boy’

‘That Old Feeling’

‘Tynan Time’

‘Winter Wonderland’

Slide Albatross – Slide Albatross

An independently released album from a new band which consists of saxophonist Brendan Berlach, Alex Masso on drums and David De Vries on Guitar. The guys met at uni and only started performing at gigs last year, with every one of the performances completely improvised. Their’s a smooth easy jazz folk feel to their vibe.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Migration Six’

‘Make Me Down A Pallet On Your Floor’

‘Migration Seven’

‘Ms Coconutz’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album For Christmas

‘When The Sky Cries Rainbows’ by Sandy Evans from the album When The Sky Cries Rainbows.

The Asthmatix – Go Team Go

Ever wondered what you’d get if you blended Jewish melodies, hip hop beats, and quirky vocal samples? Neither did I until I came across The Asthmatix who have done just that on this incredibly eclectic and fun debut release, create a totally fresh break beat hip hop klezmer sound.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Latke’

‘Go Team Go’

‘Melech In A Rushi’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘No More Waiting’ by Coptic Soldier and Miriam Waks featuring Phatchance. Aussie hip hop with a soul funk edge.

Dan Mangan – Oh Fortune

The 3rd album from the Canadian, and he continues with the sound he knows best. Colourful folk with hints of Indie.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Leaves, Trees, Forest’

‘Starts With Them, Ends With Us’

And today’s final track on The New Thing was a slice of cool minimal electronica ambstep from Synkro & Indigo called ‘Guidance’.

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!

Have a very Merry Christmas!!
