The New Thing 28/01/13 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Penelope Sai – Siana

Having been based in Paris for many years and soaking up much of the Parisian amorous jazz scene, Penelope Sai now resides in Leura in the Blue Mountains, and she continues to produce exquisitely serene and peaceful vocal jazz music. Also dabbling in a little bossa and Latin rhythms, Siana is a wonderful album to chill down to.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Scent Of Jasmine’

‘Once I Loved’

‘He Was Too Good To Me’

‘Siana’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Kali & The Time Of Change’ by Sirens Big Band from the album Kali & The Time Of Change.

The Cooking Club – Live

Recorded live last year at one of their gigs at the loft, The Cooking Club are locals Michael Gordon, Ken Allars, Finn Ryan and Tom Wade. Serving up jazz with twisted old school funk, the crew also recently performed as part of The Jazzgroove Summer Festival. You can download this EP for free from Michael Gordon’s bandcamp page here: https://michaelgordon.bandcamp.com/album/the-cooking-club-live

Independent Track Of The Week

‘From The Start’ by Maxi from her debut self titled EP.

Anthony David – Love Out Loud

A smooth and sexy album throughout, grammy nominated Anthony David is said to be a favourite of President Obama and his wife Michelle. Love Out Loud sees him serve up his pop styled soulful R&B music with a good dose of suave throughout.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Love Out Loud’

‘On My Way To Crazy’

‘A Way For Me’

Natural Self – Neon Hurts My Eyes

Hot off the press this one, Natural Self’s fourth album and third on the Tru Thoughts imprint is set to drop on the 11th March. Adopting a slightly alternative take to some of his older material, whilst elements of his unique funk and hip hop style remain, Natural Self has ventured further into synths, electronica, beats and soundscapes. The result is a sound of electro neo soul, undoubtedly the more expressionistic side of electronic music.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Paper Skyline’

‘In A World’

‘The Valleys’ Feat. Tanya Auclair & Milly Blue.

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00am til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
