The New Thing 7/11/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Sandy Evans – When The Sky Cries Rainbows

The multi award winning  Sandy Evans dedicates her album as a symbol of hope, the composer received terrible news in 1996 when her husband was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. A wonderful jazz album scoping the genres’ various guises.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘With The Sun Behind Me’

’40 Degrees’

‘Hand In Hand’

‘Indigo Hues’

Randa And The Soul Kingdom – What You Need

The second album from the Perth soul funksters. After spending 6 months in London Randa absorbed some of the British scene and put it in What You Need. The result is a vintage soul sound with hints of funk and disco. A Freestyle Records release.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Power In Me’

‘Cold’

‘The Things’

‘Love Sick’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album of The Week

‘Nossa Canto’ by Lee McAllistair from the album Spellbound.

Eilen Jewell – Queen Of The Minor Key

A brilliant but quite dark album from Eilen. 50’s rock n’ roll, Rhythm & Blues, soul, country and jazz are all blended seamlessly. Look out for the track ‘Bang Bang Bang’, a real corker!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Kalimotxo’

‘Hooked’

‘Bang Bang Bang’

‘Warning Signs’

‘Only One’

Independent Track Of The Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘City’ by Hayden Calnin. Look out for his debut EP ‘City’ dropping soon.

Staff Benda Bilili – Tres Tres Fort

A truly inspiring album, Staff Benda Bilili’s members are all paraplegic and were discovered by a couple of documentary makers outside of a Zoo in Kinshasa, Congo. They have an awesome afro jungle soul rock sound and are amazing dancers too! A very special album.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Je t’aime’

‘Moziki’

‘Mwana’

And today’s final track on the New Thing was possibly the happiest song ever written! Japanese fast soul artist Makoto has delved into some sunshine disco funk on this track ‘Tower Of Love’. It features vocals from Paul Randolph and I DARE you not to smile when you listen to it!

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
