The Ray Mann Three – Sketches

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Sketches by The Ray Mann Three.

Sydney Soul brother Ray Mann has returned with his second album Sketches, although the whole affair is more of a project than an album. Ray’s talents stretch from being a gifted musician to also being a creative artist and director, with gig poster art of his exhibited in both Australia and Japan and Ray also being renowned for his multimedia live music shows.  Sketches saw him combine his creative skills, and over the course of 12 months he personally created a new intricate clip for each track on this album, releasing one every month over the year.

Undoubtedly a different and artistic approach to creating an LP, it is in the music though where Sketches truly shines.  Think somewhere between Prince, The Roots and Marvin Gaye. It’s cool, it’s sexy and it’s soulful stuff, and it’s certainly no wonder that Ray Mann has already supported the likes of Jamie Lidell, Al Green and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. The Ray Mann Three have to be up there with some of Australia’s finest hidden gems, and the acts they’ve played alongside certainly testify to this.

If your soul needs some soothing and your senses need some caressing then look no further than Sketches.

Sketches is an independent release by The Ray Mann Three. For More information go to ray-mann.com

Stay closely tuned to Eastside as we are giving away copies of Sketches to a listener every-day this week!
