Our basic threads today: Lalo Schifrin, The Flaming Lips and Burt Bacharach, with odd diversions into Rush, Prokofiev and The Catholics among others. At 1 o’clock we discussed the use of sampling, particularly in regards to Daft Punk who are soon releasing their fourth album. Julian pointed to the example of their tune ‘Robot Rock’ which unashamedly repeats a portion of Breakwater’s ‘Release The Beast’ without bringing much original music to the proceedings.
