The Showdown, 6.8.12 – The Alcohotlicks special

The Alcohotlicks are launching their brand new album ‘Danaides’ this Saturday, and to celebrate we played quite a bit of the album, as well as interviewing drummer Evan Mannell about the band’s new direction. The ‘hotlicks music also had quite an effect on the rest of the show, prompting us to play guitar-heavy things like Battles, Dr Nerve, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Big Star and Claudio Simonetti. Also included were the guitar-less Michael Nyman, Glenn Gould, Bud Powell and Uri Caine*.

The Alcohotlicks ‘Danaides’ launch is Saturday 11th August at 505 (280 Cleveland St Surry Hills) for Jazzgroove, from 7.30pm. With Hello Vera and Master Of Ribongia. $25 full, $20 concession, $15 members.
