The Way to go at Wayside….

Indira Naidoo is a local resident and Ambassador for the Wayside Chapel, where she shares her passion for reconnecting with nature through gardening during a weekly gardening class for the Day to Day Living program. This program provides support for people living with long-term mental health issues.

On the roof of Wayside Chapel is a 200-square metre garden that’s full of fifty different kinds of fruits, herbs and vegetables. This special garden uses the latest in sustainable design and architecture. It features two rainwater tanks, solar panels, two worm farms, a compost system and a bee-hive containing 40 000 to 50 000 worker bees that produce more than 30 kilograms of honey each year. Growing produce is only one part of the reason for gardening at Wayside. The wider purpose is to build community, teach living skills, practise sustainability, engage with local residents and beautify Kings Cross.

This unique tour will include a presentation by Indira Naidoo, as well as talks on bee-keeping, compost management and worm farming, and will be followed by a short walk to nearby Café Dov’s courtyard garden for drinks and some wonderful canapés made using freshly picked produce from the kitchen garden

Join Indira Naidoo on a tour of Wayside Chapel’s rooftop garden and support iconic Sydney charity and learn something about beekeeping, compost management, worm farming and small-plot gardening with Indira and the Wayside Chapel team.
