Tonight on Something Else – Yellamundie

Tonight, Justine will be talking to Frederick Copperwaite, the artistic director of the Yellamundie National Aboriginal Playwriting Festival, which will see its launch at the Sydney Festival on 27th January 2013 at Carriageworks. This event will be the first of its kind held in Sydney for over 20 years.

Yellamundie is the Dharug word for storyteller.

The Festival is an intensive two week exchange of creativity and collaboration between Indigenous creatives, resulting in a series of free play readings at Carriageworks from February 7th – 9th. More information and bookings here.

With stories spanning the city to the bushland, the plays will explore some of the most important issues facing Indigenous communities in contemporary society. The festival aims to give these plays the professional development they need to be ready for production by a theatre company.

Cuz by Billy McPherson
Crowbones and Carnivores by David Milroy
The Lighthouse by Sermsah Bin Saad.

On a separate note, after three wonderful years at Eastside, this will be my last Something Else show. I am relocating to Canberra but hope to continue contributing to the Something Else blog every now and then as interesting things come up.
