Lyre Byrdland, Wallace and Sagrada Famíliar Live

Review by Anna Kassin

Live at the Sly Review Gig 14 July

A heated room stuffed full of people enjoying a can of beer, filled with extraordinary music and right in the middle of it it’s you, having the best time of your life.

That is how I experienced last Thursday’s evening at the Sly Fox! Three local bands, free entry and cheap drinks supporting the bands.

The evening started with hip-hop influenced group Sagrada Famíliar combining rap from the street with mellow singing. I was fascinated by the mixture of rap and soulful singing and instead of booming hiphop beats in the backgroung, the two singers were accompanied by smooth feel-good tunes.

Unfortunately, they haven’t produced an album, yet, but I’m hoping they’ll manage to make a record soon!

Following the opening gig, future soul singer and songwriter Wallace Gollan performed, treating audience’s ears with her deep, jazzy voice that sounds like from another era.

Wallace+Music

Her music is passionate and compelling, her voice intriguing and addicting and the moment you feel you have adapted to the music, she surprises you with sudden spacey tunes that make her jazzy sounds of the live band fuller and complete.

You can listen to her new single “Vinyl Skip” in the following video:

The best part comes last they say and it was proved by third band Lyre Byrdland, who definitely turned out to be the musical highlight of the evening, making everyone dancing, enjoying themselves and definitely having a good time!

Lyre Byrdland Review Gig Sly Fox

Lyre Byrdland are a groovy, authentical 10 member jazz band with the lineup of a tenor and bari sax, trumpet, trombone, two guitars, bass, drums and percussion.

You can have a listen to a prior gig at Sly Fox right here:

I truly had a good night, experiencing and discovering brilliant live music, enjoying my time at the Sly Fox and I hope I’ll have the chance in the near future to do that again.

I recommend the live gigs at Sly Fox to everyone who wants to explore good local music and wants to experience a cheerful, fabulous free entry evening  supporting the local artists!
