Walter Smith III playing The Sound Lounge

The Los Angeles Times simply states the future of Jazz is bright with rising saxophonist Walter Smith III. If you caught the sold-out Eric Harland performances in June, you will recall Smith being an integral part of Harland’s band. Described by the New York Times as “fabulous”, Smith is a young gun on the LA jazz scene whose composing and arranging shows a depth of concept well beyond that of most of his contemporaries.

In the Jazz tradition, Smith has developed under the wings of many of the music’s greats.  Walter has been a member of several legendary US groups (recording and touring) including the Terence Blanchard Quintet, Eric Harland’s Voyager band, Roy Haynes “Fountain of Youth” band, Jason Moran’s Big Bandwagon, and the Christian McBride Situation band.  Smith has performed all over the world participating in numerous international festivals as well as famed venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Centre.  A graduate of Berklee College of Music, the Manhattan School of Music and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, this evening promises exceptional music making.
