Wanderlust Meets Simon Milman! – Reina De La Pileta

Eastside Radio’s album of the week is Reina De La Pileta – by Wanderlust meets Simon Milman

cover

One of Sydney’s longest standing improvising ensembles, Wanderlust, and Composer/Double bassist Simon Milman have teamed up to release Reina De La PiletaThe debut album from this exciting collaboration presents a bold mix of African and Latin rhythms with a heavy dose of improvisation and humour.

Canberra based outfit Wanderlust won the best Jazz album Aria award in 1994 for their self-titled debut album and have been playing with the same creativity and flair ever since, concocting a fascinating blend of jazz with world music and as champions of improvisation and interplay.

Far from his alter-egos of rapper Coolio Desgracias or the japanese Elvis impersonator Erebis, Simon Milman’s presence on the album is not only on the double bass, but in the composition. The compositions for Reina De La Pileta are heavily infused with Latin and African beats influenced by Simon’s  upbringing and extensive travels throughout the Caribbean, South America and Africa.band

The inventive and varied compositions are handled with aplomb by some of Australia’s most accomplished and talented jazz musicians helping turn Reina De La Pileta into an energy filled dance across the globe.

Tune in to Eastside Radio 89.7 throughout this week as we play tracks from this exciting collaborative album and for your chance to win a copy!
