Welcome Pauline to Eastside Radio
When I was at school, I had always dreamt of travelling to Sydney to complete an internship. Right now my dream has become a reality, as I am sitting here at Eastside Radio typing posts for their website, this being my first publication Down Under. My travel from Germany to Australia was nearly 22 hours and I find it very confusing to get on the plane in Frankfurt in Autumn only to arrive in Sydney during the springtime.
But that is what I am here for, to experience a totally different lifestyle to my German one. Initially, I expected Sydney to be really awesome and it has fulfilled my expectations in every single way! Sydney is the one place on earth where everybody should travel to at least once in their lives. I find that the people here are very open-minded, friendly and happy, being enthusiastic about foreigners coming to Australia to gain work experience.
My hometown lies in the province of Germany, Kassel, which lies right in the middle of the country and is two hours away from Frankfurt. My hometown of Kassel is actually a city, although not as large as Sydney, and consists of around 200.000 inhabitants. It is very famous for an exhibition of contemporary art, called the Documenta, which takes place every 5 years. During the exhibition, Documenta, people from all over the world come to Kassel and the city develops a cosmopolitan atmosphere, similar to the one of Sydney. Two famous men who originated from Kassel were the Brothers Grimm, who recorded and published all the famous fairytales like Cinderella and the Sleeping Beauty.
I am really thankful to Eastside Radio for giving me the opportunity to gain insight into the fields of Journalism, Media and Public Relations. In my opinion, it is a great station which plays really good music and has a really pleasant atmosphere. I am sure that these 4 months of internship will really help me on my way to maybe become a journalist in the future.
As my stay in Sydney has just begun, I am really looking forward what I am going to experience here in Australia.
