This June and July AFTRS Open is running intensive, hands-on workshops in AFTRS state-of-the-art facilities. You will be taught by industry professionals currently working in the film, television and radio industries and have access to the latest equipment.

INTRO TO TV & RADIO PRESENTING

Develop your own unique on-air persona and learn skills to develop your career in the media.
This course combines AFTRS Open’s regular ‘Introduction to TV Presenting’ and ‘Announcing and Presentation’ courses plus a day of our ‘Voice Over’ course into one intensive week. The course includes practical tuition in on camera presenting skills including writing your own scripts, conducting interviews on camera, voice over skills for TV and radio, announcing skills, working with autocue and developing your own unique presenting style.

SHORT FILM SCREENWRITING

Write a completed short film script in just five days! Learn from Tropfest winner and Palme D’or nominee Jonathan Ogilvie and inspiring guest speakers how to take your stories from initial idea through treatment and draft stage, to a finished, polished script ready to be pitched. Story structure, theme, character, roadblocks, arcs, tension, conflict and resolution will be explored as they are used in filmmaking through fast paced lectures and workshops. An AFTRS Open Winter School panel of experts will listen to the pitches and vote on the script that will be made in ‘Filmmaking’ – week 2 of Winter School.

INTRODUCTION TO RADIO

Learn essential radio skills from experienced radio industry professionals. In this five day intensive you’ll gain the confidence and skills to begin your career in radio. From roles and responsibilities and announcing and presentation, to editing and studio skills, we’ve got it all covered.
