Adelaide has always been known for hosting vibrant festivals.

In 1992, WOMAD (A World of Music, Arts & Dance) was introduced in the South Australia capital during the joint venture between the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the UK-based WOMAD organization.

The festival officially became known as WOMADelaide in 1993 and has turned into a prominent Australian festival.

WOMADelaide is returning to Adelaide’s Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla from March 10 to 13, featuring over 60 performances on seven stages over the four-day period.

The performances over the weekend include Florence + the Machine, The Proclaimers, Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn, Madeleine Peyroux and so much more.

Visitors this weekend will also have the chance to see various artists and installations throughout Botanic Park such as the La Grande Phrase dancers of France and Foco alAire of Mexico.

There will also be flags created by Angus Watt on site, which have been on display at the festival since 1999.

Also taking place at WOMADelaide is The Planet Talks, a three-day ecological forum at the Frome Park Pavilion and led by local activists and scientists. Some of the scientists and thinkers are Peter Burdon, associate professor at the Adelaide Law School; Alice Jones, ecologist; Fran Kelly, political commentator; and Eytan Lenko, CEO of Boundless Earth.

The festival is also a “family-friendly environment.” The KidZone will have arts and crafts sessions, Kaurna culture explorations and nature play for kids 12 and under and their parents.

Both children and adults can learn traditional dances from Ghana through the Asanti Dance Theatre, participate in a Macedonian folk dance session or begin their festival experience with yoga as part of the artist-led workshops.

Attendees can try numerous global cuisines through Taste the World, hosted by Rosa Matto and David Sly. ADG7, Julian Belbachir, Yungchen Lhamo and a lot more will be sharing stories and cooking traditional dishes from their hometowns.

Tickets are sold out Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but there are limited tickets still available for Monday here: https://www.womadelaide.com.au/tickets
