Writers in the Park Festival

It is emphatically the People’s Park. One of the grandest adornments of this beautiful country – Sir Henry Parkes, opening Centennial Park, 26 January 1888.

Writers in the Park is the inaugural People’s Park Literary Festival in the world’s largest urban parklands, Centennial Park, birthplace of Australia, home to native wildlife, flora, fauna and rich in arts heritage.

Acclaimed Australian writers who lived in the environs of the Park include Nobel Prize in Literature winner Patrick White and national bush poet Banjo Paterson. In honour of literature, the statue of Charles Dickens, one of only three in the world, stands in the Park. Writers in the Park brings authors, storytellers, publishers, writing associations, performers, poets and the literary life of Sydney into an interactive festival for everyone, young and old.

Exciting highlights include:

  • The Literary tent with publisher and writer panels, book launches, performances.
  • Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) story tent with acclaimed Australian authors and illustrators.
  • Stalls with literary feasts both creative and gourmet.

Discover Centennial Parklands honey from their own beehives, barista coffees, autographed books, book illustrations, literary and language organisations from the oldest women’s literary association Society of Women Writers, Room to Read, Books in Homes, Monkey Baa Theatre, Goethe Institute, book clubs, libraries and so much more.

Centennial Parklands, SCBWI, Susan Wyndham, literary editor of the Sydney Morning Herald and the community are looking forward to this People’s Literary Festival.
