You want to do Kenya in style. Hollywood glam OK for you?
William Holden found this place at the foot of Mt Kenya and fell in love with it. He was a hunter then in between movie shoots. But when he bought this property and turned it into the Mt Kenya Safari Club, he changed to viewing game rather than shooting it. At his death the William Holden Wild Life Trust was created and today the vastly improved property is managed by Fairmont Hotels of Lake Louise, Canada, fame. You can reach it by road, three hours drive from Nairobi
The place is really to die for, acres of manicured lawns, game drives, fifty activities to choose from including horse riding and the GM is an upbeat Frenchman with a passion for bees, food and champagne. He also champions the cause of local foods and produce. He is importing peacock eggs from India to replenish the Club’s original rookeries. There is a lot of elephant tusks here at the Zebra Bar (old ones -nobody shoots elephants anymore) and a lot of 60s Hollywood glamour.
