Youth Para-sports coming to Balmain

‘Get Involved’

Young people with a disability from the local community are being encouraged to get involved in Para-sports to help establish a new generation of Para-sport participants. This weekend the opportunity is there for an expert introduction to Para-rowing, with coaching available at Balmain Rowing Club.

The initiative was created after the Australian Paralympic Committee received new funding from the Coca-Cola Australia Foundation to help young Australians with a disability from across the country ‘Get Involved’ in Para-sports.

The new drive, dubbed ‘Get Involved’, will be making its way to Balmain on Sunday 7th September, and aims to get local youths with disabilities involved in Para-rowing. Young people who participate in the event will receive both group and one-on-one coaching in the sport of rowing, as well as ongoing support from Balmain Rowing Club.

Jason Hellwig, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Paralympic Committee said: “This exciting initiative provides people with a disability in the Sydney area with an opportunity to try a new Para sport and find out where it can take them. It may lead to a new passion, a way to meet new friends, to help keep fit, and it may even lead to future sporting success at a higher level. The Australian Paralympic Committee is committed to providing a link for undiscovered talent to reach their full potential.”
